Sensex crashes 538 points; Nifty below 7,800
The benchmark BSE Sensex tanked by over 538 points in one of its worst falls in over three months to 25,622.87, tracking global sell-off amid concerns over slowdown in China and escalating tension in the Middle East.

'Manufacturing shrinks for 1st time in over 2 years'
In the first contraction in over two years, manufacturing sector output dipped in December to a 28-month low as new orders fell sharply and production took a big hit from heavy rains in Chennai, putting pressure on RBI to keep rates low.

Rupee down 21 paise against dollar in early trade
Dollar surging against other Asian currencies and a lower opening in domestic equities also weighed on the domestic unit, dealers said.
