The Environmental Affairs Council (EAC) of the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) will hold its eighth meeting on April 2 – 3 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The press is invited to attend the public session of the meeting at the Port of New Orleans. U.S. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Judy Garber and Assistant United States Trade Representative for Environment and Natural Resources Jennifer Prescott will lead the U.S. delegation. In addition to the United States, participants will include Environment Ministers and other officials representing CAFTA-DR EAC countries: the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Since 2004, the United States has dedicated almost $90 million to support environmental cooperation with CAFTA-DR countries. Through this cooperation, CAFTA-DR governments are working to strengthen implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, protect biodiversity, increase market-based conservation, and improve private sector environmental performance. The public session will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at the Port of New Orleans’ auditorium.
