Lushengo,
Maybe you are right that I'm a Luo by tribe. But I grew up at the kenyan South Coast between Mombasa and Tanga, among the Digos therefore the Luo language has never really interfered with either my Swahili or English.
But yes, the pronunciation that I gave may not be 100% correct because I'm trying my best using Kiswahili as a base for illustratration.
But one thing for certain, for JUICE J-U-I-S is wrong, very wrong.
J-U-S or J-U-U-S is more than 99% correct.
Mbona utusaidie hapa kaka !!! Give us the correct way to pronounce it. I'm always willing to learn. I'm just presenting here how I hear Canadians saying these things.
I await your opinion of how to pronounce JUICE properly without any interference form an African dialect.
Courage

CourageEnglish is a tough language to learn because there's no formula for pronunciation. each word is memorized on its own.Anna,I'm not really a teacher by profession; I'm an Engineering Lecturer but I teach English to new immigrants on a volunteer basis on Saturdays. Most of the words I bring here for discussion are from my class, the words that pose challenges to my students.
For example;
The word ROUGH is pronounced as R-A-A-F gh has an F sound
but
The word THOUGH becomes DH-O-O gh is silent. Even TH becomes DH !!!!!!If you sit in my class, you'll be amazed at all the different pronunciation problems people have around the world.--

CourageHouse Chores ? It's simple: Ha-u-s ch-o-o-s Neno hilo latamkwa kama chooMwai,I had the same problem with the word JUICE until I came to Canada and learned the correct way to do it. We all rely on how our teachers pronounce things so if a teacher does not know a word very well, we adopt the same mistake in pronouncing that word.
