PRESS RELEASE - Key wildlife species in trade come under the spotlight
CITES gathers over 200 wildlife experts in Israel to review trade levels and conservation status of sharks, snakes, polar bear, lion and other species
Tel Aviv/Geneva, 29 August 2015 – Leading scientists from across the globe are meeting in Tel Aviv, Israel, from 30 August to 3 September 2015 for the 28th meeting of the Animals Committee of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Over 200 delegates from more than 50 countries are expected to attend the meeting, including observers from Parties, intergovernmental bodies, non-governmental organizations and private businesses.

CITES Secretary-General's welcoming remarks at the 28th Meeting of the CITES Animals Committee
It is a great pleasure to be with you in Tel Aviv today at the 28th meeting of the CITES Animals Committee. This is the first time that a CITES body has met in Israel in the 40+ year history of the Convention and I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Government and people of Israel for their warm hospitality and impeccable arrangements for the meeting.
