When I read stories like these, I wonder what kind of training some of
these journalists get. They don't double-check their stories.

Even I who has no journalism training I'm aware that before one
publishes a story, one has to double-check the facts and get
corroboration from another independent source. Infact major
international newspapers and TV networks have huge departments of Fact
Checkers. No story is published or goes on the air without
corroboration.
That guy must have bought his journalism degree behind some bar in
Lilongwe; or his uncle owned the newspaper and hired him even with no
qualification at all.
