DRINKING WATER BRANDED "DEW"
Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has learnt of information circulating through the internet on drinking water branded DEW purported to be produced in Tanzania, which is claimed to have caused deaths among consumers in Nigeria.
TBS would like to make it clear to the public that this information is sheer hearsay and utter lie, as there is no drinking water branded DEW that is being produced in Tanzania.
For more than a month now, TBS inspectors have been searching for the said water in the local market but in vain. We have communicated with National Standards Bodies in the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and they have assured us that they have not come across the supposed brand in their countries. We have also contacted the Nigeria National Bureau of Standards for any clue on the said drinking water purported to have been distributed in their market and they have also refuted that claim.
All these efforts have confirmed the circulating information as hearsay, aiming at disrupting Tanzania's international trade and corrupting the country's reputation.
We appeal to all Tanzanian consumers to ignore this information.
However, the government, through intelligence methods, will search for the source of this fictitious information. Strong legal measures will be taken against the perpetrator so as to prevent such information in the future.
TBS would also like to take this opportunity to urge the public to continue consuming water that has been certified by TBS.
