Raghuram Rajan's critics happy he's calling time at RBI
A large section of the market is happy that Raghuram Rajan is leaving RBI in September and they are hoping that someone who’s more pragmatic and understands the complex structure of the Indian banking and the economy would step into his shoes. They feel Rajan had used his position very well and to India’s advantage to tackle the currency crisis of 2013, but thereafter his policies were not suited to the Indian system. In a way, these people TOI spoke to supported the view of Subramanian Swamy, a BJP MP and former Harvard professor who has been gunning for Rajan’s exit for the last few months, saying the former University of Chicago professor is no doubt an accomplished academician but for India, he is a misfit. However, none of the fund managers, corporate heads and economists was willing to go on record on this.
