Re: [wanabidii] English Pronunciation

Oduor

Nilikiri REBELION inatamkwa R-I-B-E-L-I-O-N badala ya R-E-B-E-L-I-O-N (hapa nafikiri tunaendeleza mchakato wa kutamka kwa Kiswahili)

Pia kuna matamshi mengi ambayo tunayatumia kutokana na jinsi tulivyofundishwa mfano.

Ukiwa Uganda utakuta wao wanatamka MINUTE kama M-I-N-A-T-I wakati ilitakiwa kuwa M-I-N-I-T-I

Wengi ikiwemo hata mie nimekuwa natamka VEHICLE kama V-E-H-I-K-O kumbe inatakiwa kutamkwa V-I-H-E-I-K-O...... je nini mawazo yako kuhusu mchango wa waliotufundisha lugha katika hilo?

My daughter just caught me in a mispronunciation of a very common word. By the way, my daughter is very pedantic about these things. It's avery simple word and one that no one ever thinks about but it symbolizes how difficult itis to learn to speak English. English pronunciation has no formula and each word is memorized independently of the others.
Here we go:

REBEL  (to go against the rules)
If you're using it as a verb
It is pronounced as R-I-B-E-L
Fro example:  The kids must never rebel (RIBEL)against the teachers

But if used as a noun, the pronunciation changes.
REBEL  now becomes  R-E-B-O-L    (One who goes against the rules)
For example: Papa Likondi is the only rebel (REBOL) in that group dog sellers.

As for REBELLION
It is pronounced as  R-E-B-E-L-I-O-N

I don't know why those started this language made things this complicated !!!!
These are the reasons I hated English all throughout my childhood, and to this day.
Anyway, I hope this helps those who were curious to confirm.

Courage
