Ndugu Evans ,

Let me add some few suggestions on the problems of the Drivers .

As drunk driving is one cause for car accidents, campaigning to eradicate this
problem is therefore an important necessity. While alcohol checkpoints can help
to reduce accidents, many other accident factors are also involved that require
investigation and resolution. for example, discover other accident causes to be
excessive speed sudden driving interferences failure to signal driving in the wrong
lane failure to heed stop signs , not keeping in the left hand lane , unprofessional
driving and failure to give way . These most factors of the accidents nation wide .

Lack of discipline to keep traffic rules is a significant cause of accidents. In addition,
not only is there a loss of life and property for accident victims, but their family
members and relatives are also certainly affected. Therefore, in order to solve
this problem, a disciplined observance of traffic rules should be seriously enhanced.

However, in addition to arranging rule-drills for people, especially juveniles, the
discovery of a solution to control or punish those who break the rules would also be
significant, also requiring rapid and effective attention. For example, we should
established catch speed riders in every city area with cameras be installed to detect
cars driven at high speed. Due to this policy, the accident will be reduced .

It is therefore necessary to solve Kenya's road accident problem using law reinforcement
against high speed riders and those who break traffic rules. This can be achieved using
such technology as a camera watch system linked to electronic gadgetry that can issue
tickets and extend the validity of road licenses. Such measures should be combined with
a "drive without drink" campaign in order to reduce the occurrence of road accidents.

So what causes the problem? There are many different reasons why car accidents happen.
Some people are distracted while driving. They are on the phone, sending text messages,
fixing their make-ups, and most of the drivers are distracted because of rubbernecking.
They set their eyes on something else and run into walls, other cars, or posts.
Another major reason is drinking. People do not know how dangerous it is to drive drunk;
furthermore, they don't even know they had been drinking because they drank too much.
The fatigue of driving for many hours causes many accidents too. Drivers get tired and fall
asleep without even noticing it. The speeding is also one of the reasons for accidents.
Even though there are speed limits for different places, people don't keep them. Teens
race on highways with motorbikes or cars. Adults get drunk and drive as fast as rockets.
Some people face accidents because of others. Other people may ignore the laws of traffic
and run into you. You may not deserve it, but accidents happen at any time. It is your
responsibility to always stay awake and be alarmed.

Restrictive legal measures combined with the attentiveness of traffic police are very important
so that all drivers will be helped to respect each other while driving on the road. Road safety
in Kenya will then proportionately increase.

Their should be a Strict Law to any driver Matatu and Tuk Tuk for example those don't have
PSV should not be allowed to drive and when caught , they should be banned and put in Jail
for at list 1 months and the Matatu or Tuk Tuk be kept in custody of the Police for a Month .

Any Road Worthy Vehicles including Tuk Tuk should not be allowed to be on the Road if caught
be confiscated by the Government . A warning should be announce in all Media's , Radios
TV's , Banners and Posters be distributed to Mosques and Churches .

There is no simple or specific solution to the problem of car accidents. All of us just need to
keep the basic rules and laws. People need to be aware of accidents at anytime and anywhere.
Individuals cannot solve this problem. We all have to work on it as one nation to solve it.
Only one or two people keeping the warnings in their mind won't help that much to prevent
the accidents. Everyone should obey and follow the rules. That's why there are rules, to keep
them. However, people think lightly about the traffic laws. They just think driving as their daily
routine. This mistaken thought would lead not only them but other people to death.

Bribing the police officer would do the magic trick. There are some police officers' faults too,
but it is wrong for us to bribe at the first place. We should take responsibilities for what we've
done and pay them. Another basic solution we could do is to not drive after drinking. People
who get drunk should take a taxi or ask one of their friends to drive them home. We should
place the police officers more often on the roads at night, so people would not drive after
drinking. Another thing we can do is to put more cameras on the road to take more pictures
of those who speed up over the limit. We can put warning signs of cameras to help the people
stay alarmed

Then the teens would not race anymore, and the adults would not drive fast for any reason.
They should not go for long journey after heavy loads of work. All of these can prevent the
fatigue of driving for many hours. We should teach about car accidents, and about its
consequences more often in school. So we can show the students how dangerous car accidents
can be.

I know people don't wish to get involved in car accidents, but people don't take it seriously until
they actually get involved. The problem would not be solved until the drivers take actions and
people take the warnings seriously. Fines and policing would not solve everything because people
would only slow down in front of the cameras, and police officers. They would speed up again
when no one is watching. If this continues like this, no one can solve it. The solution lies within
our conscience and honesty.

Subject: [Kiswahili] Molo Crash - WHERE ARE STAKEHOLDERS!

Its time the Matatu crew, matatu owners and traffic police do a conference on disaster management where causes of accidents spells the core theme.

While there are various causes that contributes road accidents,i opine that the following are key contributors;-

1.Target - Some matatu owners have put a sealing as a target the crew must hand over and the end of the day.The crew have to work for that target and possibly surpass so as to enjoy the extra hence over speed to fetch on time.

2.Stealing - some matatu crews steal the mat for a night kill. They have to do fast rounds so as to return the mat to "wake up again - fresh - not really fresh" to start working for the day. Here, some owners have no idea that their asset was on jobo at night, hence one continues working without resting.

3.Overloading where weight controls the driver.

4.Bad roads - either by weather or smoothness that drivers are overtaken or bends that require a professional driver.

5.Unhealth competion - the ups and downs by drivers (some not skilled/trained) competes in disregard to the safety of passengers and other road users.

6.Mechanical - some vehicles are not un-roadworthy,or not well maintained by the owners or poor workmanship by mechanics hence failure to operate even in the best conditions of the road.

7.Corrupt police officers who play one eye blind oblivious of the dangers that looms high.

Granted, the stakeholders have a bone to chew together.

20 dead in Molo road crash

Twenty people died while seven others were critically injured after a matatu they were travelling in lost control and plunged into a ravine Wednesday.
This brings to 31 people dead and seven injured in Nakuru alone in less than 48 hours since the dawn of the New Year. Eleven people died at the notorious Salgaa black spot on the Nakuru Eldoret Highway on January 1.
The 2 pm accident drew large crowds of curious onlookers and Good Samaritans who struggled to retrieve bodies from the wreckage and save survivors who were stuck in the vehicle.
The horrific road crash happened on the Molo-Olenguruone highway in Nakuru County in a hilly area characterised by hairpin bends and deep gorges down the roadside.
The accident occurred at Quarry area a few kilometres from Molo Town at a site where stonemasons mine building stones.
The 14-seater matatu which was carrying passengers from Olenguruone Town in Kuresoi District to Molo Town, lost control and veered off the road, plunging several metres down a ravine.
Incidentally, the large body count pointed out the fact that the vehicle, which is licensed to carry just 14 people besides the driver, was overloaded.
Rift Valley police boss John Mbijiwe, who visited the scene of the crash as well as survivors at Molo District Hospital said stern action would be taken against traffic police officers manning roadblocks along the 43-kilometre Molo-Olenguruone stretch.
"If the vehicle passed the officers on the road and they did not stop it, action has to be taken against the officers," said Mr Mbijjiwe.
Visibly angry, he issued a stern warning to errant drivers plying that route which is notorious for overloading and careless driving.
At the scene, Mr Mbijjiwe said that 10 men, two women, and seven children had perished in the accident, bringing the total to 19.
However, when Nation visited Molo District Hospital later, we found that an elderly woman had passed on.
