On February 19th, the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB) conducted its 266th quarterly meeting at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. The FFSB oversees the worldwide Fulbright Program which facilitates academic exchange programs between the people of the United States and the people of other countries that are necessary to address global challenges.

During the meeting, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan administered the oath of office to reappointed member Lisa Caputo and new member Emma Sepúlveda. The FFSB also voted to broaden the terms of one category of Fulbright grants for U.S. Scholars. The “Fulbright Global Flex Awards” will allow U.S. Fulbright Scholars to take multiple, short-term visits to one or more countries, providing greater flexibility to pursue research and teaching. For details, please visit the FFSB Policies page.

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946 by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, grants 8,000 scholarships annually for academic exchange programs between the United States and over 160 countries around the world.  More than 360,000 participants have studied, taught, conducted research, exchanged ideas, and contributed to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
