[wanabidii] Re: (VVM Forum) English Pronunciation

Lister wodma,

I try to bring something positive and helpful on these blogs as opposed to the virulent animus and animosity that is so prevalent here that serve no purpose at all.

The English Grammar and Pronunciation that I do here I'm sure are not problems at all for most Kenyans. I'm just trying to reach the odd 0.00001% that probably need clarification on certain words. I really hated English all through Primary and Secondary schools because of some of these words that I bring here.

For example, what's the difference between:
THOUGH and ALTHOUGH ?
TILL and UNTIL?
AFFECT and EFFECT ?
SOMEONE and SOMEBODY?
GOOD and WELL?
etc.

I just imagine that there are a few people out there going through the torture I used to go through with these words when I was a kid. Living a good part of my life in Kwale did not help either since we spoke only Swahili and Digo.

Courage

Today I have good news. I watched the whole 1 hr of KTN Prime News and not a single English word was mispronounced. I'm very impressed with Mburu and Yvonne Okwara, Ogina, and the entire KTN team that delivered the news today.
There was only one incident of someone being interviewed who made a faux pas with the word CAMEL.

He said K-A-M-E-L
The correct way is K-A-M-O-L   (the O is very subtle, not loud/strong)

Hongera na heko kwenu nyote wanaKTN mliotusomea taarifa leo.

"Enderea styro hiyohiyo", as President Kibaki would say.
