Of course that reply is not technically right but if it's something people have accepted in a region/language, then it's fine. It's the same as when I hear people greet others Jambo and the reply is also Jambo. Or as we say in Kenya's Digo South Coast: One says; "Kalamkaze?" and the reply is "Kalamuka". By replying in the same words back, you're implying that all is well with you and you're now only concerned about the welfare of the asker/greeter.
