Subject: [NVK-Mageuzi] IEBC MUST ANNOUNCE ALL ELECTIONS RESULTS IMMEDIATELY

Folks,

Recent media reports that the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission will announce election results 48 hours worry me. The last Post Election Violence was precipitated by an inordinate delay in announcing the presidential results, which gave the impression that election officials were stuffing ballots. Delaying results again this time around for 48 hours is pure insanity and a recipe for chaos; it is retrogressive even by IEBC and the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya standards where they have generally done a good job in the past of releasing results as soon as they tally the votes. I believe that if they follow through with their plans to delay or withhold the announcing the presidential results is more likely to trigger public outrage because Kenyans generally do not trust the IEBC to be impartial. It is therefore incumbent upon the IEBC to remove any doubt or appearance of impropriety of any kind by being transparent and timely. It is an imperative that election results be released immediately Already we have a bad start in this election as several police office officers are reported injured or Killed in election related violence in Mombasa, we do not need to exacerbate the situation.  The only way to prevent violence and mitigate rigging is to announce results immediately the polling stations close, at least provisional results. IEBC chairperson Hassan once said that he "will not announce results if they are rigged", that coming from the head of an independent government organ doesn't give anyone of us comfort that the IEBC is truly independent and competent enough to handle this exercise.
The IEBC has been accused of incompetency and bias in recent weeks and months, from failing to register Millions of voters to its CEO James Oswago, a CORD sympathizer, improperly awarding 330 Million Shilling voter education to CORD affiliates. It is clearly presiding over this election with several strikes against it already and it must prove to Kenyans and the world that it is a better alternative than the ECK. My biggest trepidation is that IEBC would be prevailed upon to take advantage of Uhuru Kenyatta's circumstances before the ICC and deliberately rig the outcome against him. He is already muzzled by the ICC and cannot raise an honest complaint without being accused of fomenting trouble, if that were to happen, democracy will suffer irreparable harm. So let the IEBC truly be an impartial independent anchor of democracy in Kenya, count the votes and announce the results immediately.
