Relatives RAPE kins to settle family ROWS …… worrying trend in Nyandarua

Tuesday 29th October 2013 - A new trend has emerged in Nyandarua County whereby relatives rape kins to settle family disputes. Young relatives are the most targeted to settle scores after domestic quarrels.
Incest has become a weapon to fight back a relative who offends you. An anonymous 13 year old victim who shared her painful experience said that her abusers were close family members. She was gang-raped by six close family members who had a row with the father.
She said that the family had fought over a piece of land and after sometime, the cousins dropped by to seek reconciliation. They said that they were sorry and wanted the good relationship to continue. It was during the visit that the girl was raped by her cousins who left her unconscious and bleeding.
Nyandarua South District Children's officer, David Koigi, confirmed such cases saying that they had been on the rise. Uncles and cousins decide to settle family disputes by raping innocent young girls. Koigi said that majority of rape cases have seen families opt for out of court settlements.
Affected families are given Sh 10,000 as compensation and remain silent on the matter unaware of the great trauma and psychological torture inflicted on the young minds.
