Re: [wanabidii] Re: English Pronunciation

We may also think of how we pronounce: bit and beat; chit and cheat; bitch and beach; bit and beat; chit and cheat; sit and seat; chick and cheek; shit and sheet; mick and meek; boss and bossy, sick and seek; hot and haughty; knot/not and naught, choke and chalk; lose and loose; aunt and ant etc.

Subject: English Pronunciation

Today's word is THEREFORE.

This is a very simple and common word that we each probably use more than 20 times a day. I have now hear 2 versions of pronunciations for this word.

First, let me say that the correct way, loosely, in my opinion is:
THEREFORE  ------   DH-E-YA-FO-O

But I've heard some people pronounce it in a way that sounds very pretentious. They say DH-E-RA-FO-O   I believe this is wrong. It makes one sound very pretentious. This version is very common in Uganda but it came to my attention the other day when a Luo friend of mine, a very pretentious character, used it when talking to me on the phone.

Other than that, KTN Prime Full Bulletin did very well today. No mispronunciation of any word. James Smart is very impressive. I've never heard him massacre an English word.
Oh yeah, there was a lady who filed a story from the Narok bus accident scene. I remember now. I won't disclose her name.
She wanted to say MORE

She said M-O-A
The correct way is M-O-O

All in all, today I have no complaint about any other word. I'll be back if I find another important word to discuss.

Courage
