Assistant Secretary of State Russel's Travel to Rangoon, June 7-10

Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel will travel to Rangoon, Burma, on June 5 to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Senior Officials’ Meetings for the East Asia Summit, the ASEAN Regional Forum, the Lower Mekong Initiative, and the Friends of the Lower Mekong, June 7–9. Assistant Secretary Russel will also join officials from Japan and Australia for a meeting as part of our longstanding Trilateral Strategic Dialogue.

On June 10, Assistant Secretary Russel will co-lead the U.S.–ASEAN Dialogue and hold bilateral meetings with counterparts on a range of issues. He will also meet with a group of talented Burmese youth leaders, including members of the Young Southeast Asian Youth Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), to discuss ways the region’s youth can help shape the future of ASEAN.

Assistant Secretary Russel will return to Washington, D.C., on June 10.
