Re: [wanabidii] WEALTHY CEO THREATENS TO FIRE EMPLOYEES IF PRESIDENT OBAMA IS RE-ELECTED. - Mwanzo

Mobhare,

We have a lot of such stories in Kenya. let me tell you the funniest
one Ilve ever seen.

We had General Elections in Kenya in 2007. One of the 210
constituencies in Kenya is Matuga about 30 km south of Mombasa. Ali
Mwakwere won that seat and was appointed a cabinet minister. But
because he had had consulted a witchdoctor during the campaigns to
scare people into voting for him, his opponent, Mwanyoha, brought a
court petition to nullify the results. The petition came to court and
Mwanyoha won and a by-election was called in Matuga. The 2 of them
competed again. This was now in July 2010 during the World Cup games
in South Africa. Ali Mwakwere leased/rented lots of large screen TVs
and installed them in centres/towns around Matuga. He connected
cable/DSTV so people could watch the football/socccer games going on
in South Africa. The by-election was to be held 2 weeks before the end
of the World Cup. People were very pleased and thousands of people
including the youth came to these centres/towns everyday to watch the
World Cup games.

What did Ali Mwakwere do? He went around telling people that if he
lost in the by-election, he would remove all the TVs and the folks
would not see the last 2 weeks of the World Cup. But he promised that
if he won, he would let them watch the World Cup until the Final.

To cut a long story short, Mwakwere won the by-election by a huge landslide.

I love your Swahili so much that I would love to see your translation
of this story to Swahili. i think it's more dramatic and also funnier
in Swahili.

Courage,
Oduor Maurice
