The 3rd edition of the African Nations Championship has made history last Saturday with the coronation of Libya against Ghana on penalties 4-3 (0-0 after extra time). Knights of the Mediterranean then clinched their first continental title. A feat given the recent socio- political situation in the country.
Libya had to wait for penalties to win the trophy as against Gabon and Zimbabwe respectively in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The Spaniard Javier Clemente became the first European trainer to triumph in this competition.
Parker, top scorer eliminated earlier!
Nigeria, grand tournament favorite has simply taken pride in the 3rd place after a narrow victory 1-0 against Zimbabwe. Midfielder Ejike Chrisantus Uzoenyi was elected best player of the CHAN. The Super Eagles also have three players in the eleven pro of the competition, like Ghana.
The South African Bernard Parker finished top scorer with four goals. Four goals listed in group stage since Bafana Bafana have not crossed that phase of the tourney.
