[wanabidii] Woman runs with Children to avoid Polio Vaccination

As much as I hate saying this, I hope this woman's kids get Polio and that this story is told to everyone in the villages so they learn from it. The kind of church that teaches its adherents to reject vaccinations and any form of medical treatment is an evil church and one that the government should shut down.

There was a time I was at Funyula Market and I saw this woman with her 2 children, sons, around 6 and 8. They started walking towards Bumala, about 10 km away.  I stayed around Funyula for about an hour to run some errands then I drove off towards Bumala. Who do I see on the road? The woman and her 2 kids. She was now holding a cane and forcing the kids to keep walking and the kids looked very tired. Once in a while she would whip one of the kids to keep them walking. I stopped my car and offered them a lift/ride. To my surprised, the woman shoo-ed the kids towards the bush and disappeared with them in the bush. By the way, the woman had some religious clothing that looked like people from the ROHO sect. A very big Cross on her neck !!!  The lady disappeared into the bushes with the kids. I drove off and about 5 minutes later, I ran into another group of 5 people that were going to a funeral somewhere. I told them the story and they cleared it all up for me. That lady who disappeared into the bush was a member of a religious sect that does not trust cars and any form of machinery or civilization. By the way, these 5 people hopped into the car and I took them to the funeral in Musanda, about 20 km away.

Anyway, read this. it's a story of a woman in Busia who refused to have her kids vaccinated for Polio. I bet it`s because of teachings from her church.

Woman literally RUNS with children to AVOID polio vaccination….. DRAMA in Busia

The Kenyan DAILY POST 15:09

Thursday 26th September 2013 - There was drama in Amerikwai, Busia County after a woman literally ran with two of her children to avoid polio vaccination.

The woman carried a two year old on her back and the four year old in front and took off so that the children were not immunized.

Residents said that the woman was a staunch believer of Roho Church which never allowed its members to seek any form of treatment and so when she saw the health officers approaching her house, she took off.

The officers waited for her to return but she hid until when darkness fell and was sure that they had gone.

The vaccination process is conducted countrywide with the aim of reducing the number of deaths caused by polio.
