Most people here in Europe think that Mt. Kilimanjaro belongs to Kenya. This has been for a long time. It's a pity that students abroad aren't used as a tool media to promote our country. No special help students are given on Tanzanian Days. Ofcourse, no much money is needed . We can't keep queit about this issue. It's we who lose and not Kenyans.

A Tanzanian MP has demanded that her government issue a statement over an advertisement by a Kenyan airline, which according to her, misleads tourists that Mt Kilimanjaro is in Kenya.

During a Parliament session on Tuesday, Same East MP Anne Kilango-Malecela said she wanted to know why a Kenya Airways advertisement includes a picture of the mountain.

"Honourable Speaker, I have seen a Kenya Airways plane bearing Mount Kilimanjaro as a symbol and yet the (Tanzania) government is silent...the mountain is in Tanzania and is a leading tourist attraction," she said.

The country's Attorney General Frederick Werema however said it is not wrong for the airline or any other party to use Mount Kilimanjaro as a business symbol "because Tanzania has not taken out a patent for the mountain".

I can't see a reversal of history where Mt Kili will be  a Kenyan economic magnet. This icon belongs to Tanzania and it is only Tanzania to assert this position in the way we use this God given turn of events which came about from a selfish drive to bleed Africa. 

Presently lamentation will continue. What stops these guys from saying that even Ngorongoro belongs to Kenya because it is one continuos ecological system that includes Serengeti ?

Growing up in Kenya I used to hear these rumours from different sources that mount kilimanjaro actually belongs to kenya. In school history teacher avoided this question persistently. My guess is that he was not sure of the matter. It is said that the Britons gave it out to the Germans when defining the territories. This is partly confirmed by the fact that the borderline from Lake Victoria to the Coast is straight and only broken by a curve around Kilimanjaro
