Just a few lines on this!

For NBC, Islamic banking is just a part of what the bank offers. My understanding is that it is a window within the bank that offers a number of products under this umbrella in addition to all the other products it offers. It is a positive effort towards financial inclusion since research has shown that some people do not access financial services due to religious reasons one being the charging of interest on loans or payment of interest on savings. It is just like having an agricultural window or a microfinance window within a bank.

The basic definition on Islamic banking is  "A banking system that is based on the principles of Islamic law (also known Shariah) and guided by Islamic economics. Two basic principles behind Islamic banking are the sharing of profit and loss and, significantly, the prohibition of the collection and payment of interest. Collecting interest is not permitted under Islamic law.

To my knowledge only Amana Bank is a bank fully compliant with Islamic banking. All the other banks have windows offering these products.

I believe someone from NBC is reading this and will be able to provide us further clarity of the matter.

Mfumo huu. `kama utajiunga ina maana kuwa fedha zako utakazoweka humo zitabaki kama zilivyo kwa maana kuwa hutalipwa faida (interest) yeyote na ikiwa utachukua mkopo basi nawe pia hutatozwa faida yoyote, kwa mantiki hiyo wewe na benki husika wote mtafaidika kawa maana wakati benki itakapotumia fedha zako kuinvest ile faida ambayo wewe ungegawiwa inabaki na benki na pale wewe utakapo chukua mkopo basi benki nayo haikutozi faida kwa hiyo hapo wote mmenufaika lakini labda mmoja atapata zaidi. Huu ni ulewa wangu mdogo tu wa mfumo huo.

Kuna matangazo mengi sasa ya radioni yanayoonyesha kuwa kuna kitu kinachoitwa Islamic Banking (account na ATM) katika Bank ya NBC.  Nafikiri maana ya Islamic account na ATM ni mfumo ambao hauzingatii utozaji riba kama imani ya kiislm inavyosema. Najiuliza maswali mengi,mfano,kama NBC wanaona hilo la kutotoza riba linafaa,ni mtanzania gani asiyependa kupewa huduma bure au kupata mikopo isiyo na riba?Na kama hilo linawezekana si waondoe riba na tozo kwa watu wote.Na kama haliwezekani,je mzigo wa gharama za uendeshaji account nani anaubeba?. Binafsi kwa uelewa wangu huo mdogo sifurahishwi na kitu kama hicho ndani ya Bank ya kitaifa kama ya NBC. Hizi taasisi zinazobeba watu wengi sidhani kama ni busara hata kidogo kuanza kuweka vitu ambavyo mwisho wa siku vitaishia kutugawa tu wa Tanzania. Nimeshawasikia si chini ya watu 10 ambao wamesema wanachukizwa na jambo hilo na wako tayari kufunga account zao NBC.
