U.S. Department of State Hosts Tech@State: Mobile Diplomacy Conference

The U.S. Department of State will explore the effects of mobile technology and their impact on diplomacy at Tech@State: Mobile Diplomacy on Friday, October 3, 2014. The event is designed to stimulate conversations between Department of State personnel and a wider community about ways mobile technologies can transform the work of diplomacy and development.

Tech@State: Mobile Diplomacy will open with a keynote speech by Mindel De La Torre, the Chief of the International Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission, followed by a plenary panel of distinguished experts from industry and the U.S. Department of State. In the afternoon, Mark Ryland, Chief Solutions Architect for Amazon Web Services, will deliver keynote remarks, followed by two periods of breakout sessions that feature in-depth discussions on specific topics by a panel of experts.

Participants include representatives from the U.S. government, international organizations, non-profit, and academic institutions. A conference event schedule and speaker biographies can be found here. Registration is free, open to the general public, and can be accessed here.

The event will also be streamed live online at http://tech.state.gov/live. Participants can also follow the conference live on Twitter via hashtag #TechAtState and through @eDipAtState, @StateDept, and @TechAtState.

The event will be held on the campus of the George Washington University (GWU) at the Jack Morton Auditorium (Media and Public Affairs Building), located at 805 – 21st Street NW, Washington, DC 20052, from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EDT.
