		50 per cent of smaller firms not paying taxes: Govt Fifty per cent of the smaller firms are not paying taxes and the government is keeping a tab on such entities, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday. Minister of state for finance Jayant Sinha said the government has taken "revolutionary steps" to ensure there is no tax evasion. IT department publishes direct taxes related data for first time In a first, CBDT has made public a host of hard data on the total number of taxpayers in the country, income disclosed in IT returns by various category of taxpayers and number of PAN holders in the country for a chosen period of time.
