"African need United States and United States need Africa" President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete at Press conference with President Obama at State House, Dar Es Salaam,Tanzania 1st July,2013.
Let me take this opportunity to congratulate President Kikwete and his government and our people in general for making this visit possible. For the last few years Tanzania has been visited by every US sitting President, this is remarkable and commendable.
No matter what others say but President Kikwete is one of the few African Heads of states that have done so much to the people in terms of improving democracy, media freedom, Health sector, education sector, infrastructure development, energy just to mention a few and he has also managed to elevate Tanzania image in the Global arena.
President Obama is traveling to Tanzania with hundreds of business and media people.
Let's look at President Obama's visit to Africa and Tanzania in particular as an opportunity for us and capitalize on it positively rather that wasting time on looking at the negative part of the visit as some writers have tried to do in the past few days.
I am writing this message from outside Tanzania but from where I am I can follow what is happening, all media houses around the world are talking about Africa and Tanzania in particular, this has enormous positive effect to our economy.
We have all seen the inside Africa program in CNN this week about Mt. Kilimanjaro many people didn't know that it is the tallest free standing maintain in the world, perhaps some didn't even know that the mountain is in Tanzania, this a very good positive story and promotion of our tourism sector.
President Kikwete was the first African head of state invited and hosted at the White house by President Obama.
No human being is perfect but It is true that President Kikwete is one of the few statesmen remaining in Africa, he is highly respected and that is why is was chosen by other African leaders as AU Chair in his first years of his Presidency.
It goes without saying that all this is possible because of the conducive environment and enabling policies put in place by H.H President Kikwete and his government.
Congratulations President Kikwete, Long live Tanzania and May Almighty God Bless the United Republic of Tanzania.
Phares Magessa.
