There is no theory behind it. But that is how a lot of our economies in Africa operate. Some foreigner comes to Africa, invests some money on, say, a mining operation; some Africans get hired to work on those mines, they buy products (imported) and services and the money moves around but eventually, the foreigner walks away with more money than he brought in.  The Africans? They got some jobs for as long as the mine was in operation but once the mine is exhausted, Africans are back to where they started before the investor showed up !!!!  No assets left standing to sustain their economy.

Or we import phones from China. The phone moves from the importer to the wholesaler to the retailer to the consumer. In the process, a few Africans make money but eventually all the money goes back to create jobs in China !!!!  The African is left with nothing to sustain his economy.
