[wanabidii] Re: World Cup - Groupings

Laktar Gichaba,

It's interesting that you describe the Brazillian side as evoking the memories of their legendary 1982/86 teams yet you still go ahead and stand by Spain.

There's no way any team can beat Brazil in Brazil. Spain may make it to the finals if they don't run into Brazil in the knockouts before that.

Courage

Maurice,

Matter-of-factly, you've put your money in the right place. Brazil will be at home. The country has the talent - Neymar is smoking hot at Barcelona, so is his overlapping right-back, Dani Alves. Bring in Real Madrid's left full-back in defense. Up front Kaka and Robinho seem to be doing great work. And there is Hulk and Oscar. Then Silva, and overlapping Maicon.

However, I put my money on Spain. Our bet should be substantial. $100.00 (One Hundred U.S. Dollars). Let hear from the other who would like to join the betting.

Laktar Gichaba,

I think you're completely mistaken thanks to your assumption. I'll have you know that i was a fan of Mwenge FC ya Mombasa na  Luo Union ya Makongeni Nairobi. Those were the teams I would take a bullet for. Mwnge has the only record of never losing a game at the Mombasa Municipal Stadium. One time when the game was tied sare-sare and Gor got a Penalty at the last minute, that record was at risk. Gor called up their Penalty specialist, Jerry Imbo. Imbo alijiandaa, anaylzed the goal  and made his decision to shoot right in the middle because he knew that the Mwenge goalie would jump either left or right. Abbas alimtizama uso Imbo nae akafanya uamuzi wake, hakuruka popote. Imbo made his shot and Mahmoud Abbas akamdakia hapo kwa hapo. That was one of the biggest embarrassments in Imbo's soccer career.

Now talking of World Cup, I still think we'll have the usual suspects in the top 4:
Brazil
Germany
Spain
Argentina

But Italy is always a wild card in big games so keep them in mind. Then we should also expect one of those teams that come out of nowhere to do wonders, a "Croatia" or a "South Korea", that makes it to the semis.

My money? Brazil carries the day. Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroun do some unexpected things.

Courage

Maurice,

In soccer analysis, I usually get it right 9.97/10. Watch the information I give you. I know your team is Gor Mahia. That's all you know about soccer. Now you also live in a country that does very well in ice hockey. You really haven't watched a soccer game since you came to Canada when you were 18 years old. Then they don't show Gor Mahia on Canadian TV.

That would mean the soccer you know is of the days of Bobby Ogolla and Mohamed Abass. Not even Henry Motego. In soccer, those who don't have information have no right to an opinion.

Laktar Gichaba,

I'm very impressed na uchambuzi (analysis) wako. I did not imagine that a completely useless guy like you could provide this kind of analysis. I'm now inclined to not disagree with you based on the confidence you've displayed here by citing factual truths. I still say Group D will be the talk of town. Italy always comes alive in the big games.

Maurice,

In Group B, Spain is the favorite to win the group and the world cup. Netherlands will qualify but they have no enough talent to reach the Q-finals. Unlike their last world cup. Well, Chile have a good Spain-like soccer display but they have only one player - Alexis Sanchez of Barcelona.

The only team Chile may beat in a single game may be the Aussies.

In Group D a lot of Urugway players are doing well in Europe. Obviously, Italy has a lot of talent, but England is just a name.  Costa Rica is good and has been sought for in a lot of high-voltage friends by great soccer power-houses. However, it will be miraculous if any of those teams get to the Quarterfinals. There is no serious contender for the world cup in that group.

Serious contenders for the world cup are:

1. Brasil
2. Spain
3. Argentina
4. Germany

In that order, Brasil being on top because of home-ground and historical advantage. As usual, some dark horses like France, the Netherlands, Uruguay, Portugal, Chile and Italy may find way into the last four. But that would be a very long short.

I'll be watching this game from the forests of the Amazon in Rio.
