Gold slumps to 11-month low on weak demand
Gold prices slumped by Rs 250 to hit over 11-month low of Rs 27,550 per 10 gram at the bullion market Monday due to weak demand from jewellers and lower advices from futures trade. Silver also fell by Rs 210 to Rs 38,600 per kg on reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

SBI, other banks may cut lending rates in new year
At an Indian Banks’ Association meeting last week, chief executives of some large banks explored the possibility of a cut in interest rates on loans following discussions with the finance ministry, said banking sources.

Rupee reverses early gains, slips by 2 paise vs dollar
Paring its early gains, the rupee slipped by 2 paise to trade at 67.84 against US currency in late morning deals following bouts of fresh month-end dollar demand from banks and importers. Forex dealers said that the rupee is expected to trade sideways with negative bias in absence of any major cues.

China detains 11 for dumping garbage in Yangtze river
China has detained 11 people for dumping more than 2,900 tonnes of garbage into the Yangtze river in Jiangsu province, the official Xinhua news agency reported late on Sunday. The garbage was dumped earlier this month after two firms entrusted to dispose of household garbage subcontracted the work to third parties, Xinhua said.
