Dear Wanabidii, I wanted to make sure you saw Didi's email below. She's right to be worried – a new study was just released that predicts lion populations throughout Africa will shrink by half in the next 20 years. That is, unless we take major action now. Dear Wanabidii, The news of Cecil the lion's murder probably hit you hard. As Wildlife Trafficking Manager for AWF, it certainly hurt me. Then in October, South African National Parks announced that poachers had poisoned four lions in Kruger National Park. I know you are as shocked and angry as I am that poachers keep getting away with these crimes. That is why I am urging you to turn your distress into action with a donation today. Because Africa cannot afford to lose any more of its precious lions.     Our anti-poaching efforts must be expanded as quickly as possible to save dwindling animal populations.   DONATE NOW     AWF takes a comprehensive approach to protecting threatened and endangered species. In Kenya and Tanzania, where lions are often killed in retaliation for the loss of livestock, we're building bomas. These simple structures provide secure enclosures where local farmers can keep their livestock safe at night. And, we work with governments and law enforcement to ensure that when poachers and traffickers are caught, they are prosecuted for their crimes.
