Mauritania National Day

Press Statement
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
November 27, 2015

On behalf of President Obama and the citizens of the United States, I am delighted to congratulate the government and people of Mauritania on the 55th anniversary of your nation’s independence.

The United States values its friendship with Mauritania and fully supports your country’s continued development, both economically and democratically. In the coming year, we look forward to working closely with you to advance regional peace and security, expand educational and investment opportunities, and promote human rights and the role of civil society. The United States wants Mauritania and its people to prosper and to live in freedom, dignity, and peace.

I hope that all Mauritanians will enjoy a safe and festive 55th anniversary celebration and find happiness and success in the future.
