Agroscope Job Vacancy:

Organisation
Agroscope is an innovative research station for agricultural and nutritional sciences operated on New Public Management principles. Agroscope belongs to the Swiss Confederation and reports to the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER. It carries out its activities at various sites in Switzerland. The Environmental Life Cycle Assessment Research Group is investigating the impact of the food chain on the environment, with the focus on agricultural production. We are looking for two Research Associates (80-100% each) to develop the methodology of sustainability assessment and of sustainable utilisation strategies.

Duties
Post A) Sustainability assessment: you will contribute to the development of ART's SALCA Environmental Life Cycle Assessment methodology and broaden it to include economic and social aspects in order to create a method for assessing the sustainability of agricultural production systems based on the life cycle approach. You will apply the methods to Agroscope's projects on a national and international level and support Agroscope's policy consultations in this field. In doing so you will be collaborating closely with specialists in all three dimensions of sustainability. Post B) You will develop a research concept for the sustainable utilisation of limited environmental resources such as land, water, energy, nutrients and biodiversity, focussing on the optimum use of grassland. You will draw up basic principles for the development of sustainable production systems, thereby contributing to the ecological intensification of agriculture.

Requirements
We are looking for two performance-oriented, flexible individuals able to work in a team and possessing a Master's degree in Agronomy or Environmental Sciences and a PhD. Experience in agricultural environmental life cycle assessments, sustainability assessments or in resource economics is desirable. Other requirements for these positions are a good knowledge of two official languages and English as well as good IT skills, strong communication skills and conceptual thinking.
We offer varied work and thorough on-the-job training in an interesting, application-oriented working environment. You will benefit from flexible working hours, a staff restaurant and good employee benefits. Starting date: 1 January 2014 or by agreement. Both posts will provisionally end on 31 December 2015.
