Secretary Kerry to Host Annual Unaccompanied Tours Holiday Reception, "Diplomacy at Home for the Holidays"

Notice to the Press
Office of the Spokesperson
Washington, DC
December 15, 2015

Secretary of State John Kerry will host the annual “Diplomacy at Home for the Holidays” at 2pm December 16, 2015, at the U.S. Department of State.

The holiday reception honors the families of U.S. government employees on assignment at unaccompanied posts around the world, who endure long periods of separation from their loved ones, even at the holidays.

This year, the program will include remarks by Secretary Kerry, Chief of Protocol Peter Selfridge, and Iraq Ambassador to the U.S. Lukman Al Faily.

During the event, children of U.S. diplomats serving unaccompanied tours will make keepsake boxes to hold treasured tokens that remind them of their loved ones. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take holiday photos that can be instantly sent to their family members posted overseas.

In partnership with the Kennedy Center, the cast of the Tony Award®-winning Broadway hit Matilda, the Musical will perform the popular song “Naughty.”

This event is made possible through public-private partnerships.

The remarks will begin at 2:30 pm and will be open to the press. The event will be live-streamed on state.gov and video.state.gov/live.

Broadcast-quality video of the Secretary’s remarks will be available for download here. Follow @StateDept on Twitter for live coverage of the Secretary’s remarks and more information.

Pre-set for cameras: 1:15 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance lobby.

Final access for writers and still photographers: 1:45 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance lobby.
