RE: [wanabidii] Urgent follow up re: lions

Hi,

The solution is not protection that depends on donations.  Unless we get rid of corrupt governments whose leadership is in partnership with poachers there is no donation and protection will serve these wild African heritage from extinction.  Lets gang up and come together and get rid of these evil governments and its partnerships.

I would be glad to contribute into a fund that will finance real democratic elections that ensure elections in African Governments are absolutely free and fair. These election will guarantee election of responsible, accountable governments that will also protect our African heritage.

Thanks

Dear Wanabidii,

I wanted to make sure you saw Didi's email below. She's right to be worried – a new study was just released that predicts lion populations throughout Africa will shrink by half in the next 20 years.

That is, unless we take major action now.

Please make a donation to help us fight vicious, ongoing illegal hunting and poaching.

African Wildlife Foundation is putting everything we've got into saving these majestic cats from extinction – will you join us?

Thank you,
Patrick J. Bergin, PhD
Chief Executive Officer

Dear Wanabidii,

The news of Cecil the lion's murder probably hit you hard. As Wildlife Trafficking Manager for AWF, it certainly hurt me. Then in October, South African National Parks announced that poachers had poisoned four lions in Kruger National Park.

I know you are as shocked and angry as I am that poachers keep getting away with these crimes. That is why I am urging you to turn your distress into action with a donation today. Because Africa cannot afford to lose any more of its precious lions.

Our anti-poaching efforts must be expanded as quickly as possible to save dwindling animal populations.

AWF takes a comprehensive approach to protecting threatened and endangered species. In Kenya and Tanzania, where lions are often killed in retaliation for the loss of livestock, we're building bomas. These simple structures provide secure enclosures where local farmers can keep their livestock safe at night.

Across several countries, we are safeguarding key wildlife corridors and equipping rangers to ensure lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes and other animals can move safely between protected areas.

And, we work with governments and law enforcement to ensure that when poachers and traffickers are caught, they are prosecuted for their crimes.

But we need to do more, because Africa's most iconic species – including the lion – are on the decline.

Please make your most generous gift to AWF now. Let's not abandon these animals when they are at their most vulnerable.

Thank you,
Didi Wamukoya
Wildlife Trafficking Manager
African Wildlife Foundation

P.S.

Lions are already regionally extinct from 7 countries where they once roamed freely. We could lose them entirely by 2050, and elephants could be gone in less than 10! Don't let it happen – join AWF to fight poaching now.
