Kumbe pamoja na kwamba UKAWA iliwaacha waamue bado walishindwa kuchakachua kwa ustaarabu! Mtu akiwa na tabia ya wizi utamjua tu. Bado tutayajua madudu mengi waliyoyafanya kulazimisha matakwa yao wachache. Mungu ataendelea kuwaumbua mchana kweupe. Former Finance Minister, Zakia Meghji was yesterday alleged to have cast her vote for the proposed new Constitution as a delegate from the Isles while she was nominated by President Jakaya Kikwete as a Special Seats MP from the Mainland in 2010.
Ms Meghji, however, is originally from Zanzibar but moved and settled permanently in the Mainland where she is married. Having been born and raised in Zanzibar where
she attained her primary education and O-Levels before moving to Dar es Salaam where she joined Jangwani High School.
After completing her A-Levels, she briefly returned to Zanzibar where she taught at Ahmed Ben Bela Secondary school. Two years later, Ms Meghji joined the University of Dar es Salaam and upon her graduation, she permanently settled in the Mainland.
Contacted yesterday, Ms Meghji briefly said that the best institution to comment on the matter was the CA.
Her alleged voting anomally was pointed out yesterday at a press conference called by the Tanzania Constitutional Forum (TCF) chairman Deus Kibamba.
"There might be other serious irregularities in the CA voting process besides this, but for now this is what our analysis of the proposed Constitution has shown. We are still analysing it," said Mr Kibamba.
He further said that on the list of Members of the Constituent Assembly (MCAs), Ms Meghji's name appears under delegates from Tanzania Mainland but the name appears on the list of those who voted to approve the proposed Katiba from Zanzibar.
"We have looked back to confirm that she was in fact officially gazetted on February 7, 2014 as a Special Seats MCA from the Mainland," Mr Kibamba told the press.
When contacted, the CA chairman, Samuel Sitta, said he is currently in his Urambo Constituency in Tabora Region and that he was not the right person to comment on the matter. "Please young man; leave me alone in this one and try to contact the Clerk to the National Assembly," he said briefly.
But the Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr Thomas Kashilila, told this paper on the phone that he couldn't comment as he was also out of his office to attend the funeral of Dr William Shija.
This latest allegation of voting anomally will cast the CA in further bad light as queries have already been raised following charges by another MCA, Mr Haji Ambar Khamis from Zanzibar, who on Friday denounced the CA position that he cast a vote in favour of the document. The Citizen: Meghji voted as Zanzibari in CA
