[wanabidii] Man Jailed for 6 Months for stealing 100/-

i find this to be overdoing it. 6 months in jail for stealing 100 shillings? From his own mother? What kind of a mother calls the police on her son for 100/- ?  I think we've lost our humanity haki ya Mungu. I would just deny him food for a few days. Or make him work on the farm to pay the 100/- back. But the police !!!!!!  Overkill.

Man in court for STEALING mother's 100 bob in Kitale

Saturday 19^th October 2013 - A 24 year old man yesterday appeared before a Kitale court charged with stealing his mother's Sh 100 and buying earphones with the money.

The job seeker and the first born in a family of eight children stole the money from his mum's purse and bought the earphones for his Nokia phone.

The court was told that the accused sneaked into the mum's bedroom and pulled out the money before visiting an electronic shop where he bought the gadgets.

The plaintiff told the court that she asked her son after discovering the money missing but he vehemently refused. He claimed that the mother was falsely accusing him and threatened to beat her up.

The prosecution told the court that it was while at the chief's camp that the youth accepted that he had taken the cash.

He pleaded guilty before the Principal Magistrate and asked for forgiveness. The magistrate treated him as a first offender and sentenced him to 6 months to deter other petty offenders.
