U.S. Department of State Coordinator for Cyber Issues Christopher Painter will travel to San Jose, Costa Rica, April 20–21, to speak at the South School for Internet Governance, which is a program that trains new leaders in all aspects related to Internet Governance from a global perspective, with a special focus on Latin America and the Caribbean region. On April 20, Coordinator Painter will give a keynote address on “Internet Governance: An Integral Part of U.S. Foreign Policy for Cyberspace” which articulates the United States’ vision of an open, interoperable, secure and reliable information and communications infrastructure that supports international trade and commerce, strengthens international security, and fosters free expression and innovation. He will also join fellow panelists for a discussion on “Challenges and Perspectives on the Internet.” On April 21, Coordinator Painter will meet with members of the American Chamber of Commerce and address students and professors from Universidad Cenfotec on key elements of U.S. cyber policy. The U.S. delegation will be led by Coordinator Painter, and will include representatives from his office, the Bureau of Democracy Human Rights and Labor, the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, and the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.
