U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern Travels to China

Media Note
Office of the Spokesperson
Washington, DC
February 29, 2016

U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern will travel February 29 – March 2 to Beijing for the first time since the historic Paris Agreement on climate change.

Special Envoy Stern will meet with counterparts to discuss implementation of the Paris Agreement, continued U.S.-China bilateral cooperation on climate change, international climate change goals for 2016, and U.S. and Chinese domestic policies to address climate change.

Since the launch of the U.S.-China Climate Change Working Group by Secretary John Kerry in 2013, cooperation between the United States and China on climate change has become an important pillar of the bilateral relationship. Most recently, U.S.-Chinese cooperation played a critical role in the successful conclusion of the Paris Agreement.
