The United States is deeply concerned by ongoing incidents of violence in the Central African Republic. This violence must stop immediately. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and Government of Pakistan for the Pakistani peacekeeper killed in the recent violence, as well as to the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Bangladesh for their injured peacekeepers. We thank the personnel and leadership of MINUSCA, EUFOR, and the French forces for their crucial work to calm the violence and reiterate our call on the United Nations to make every effort to ensure the rapid and full deployment of MINUSCA’s military, police, and civilian staff. The United States reiterates its strong support for the efforts of President Samba-Panza to bring an end to violence and restore stability to the Central African Republic. Toward that end, we call on all leaders in the Central African Republic to send a clear message: violence and calls for a change of government must stop. This is the time to begin the hard work of national reconciliation that can lead to a political transition and democratic elections. We condemn those political spoilers and human rights abusers who foment and commit violence; such individuals have no place in the political future of CAR or in positions of trust. We call on the CAR authorities to investigate all incidents of violence against civilians and to hold perpetrators accountable. |
