it is not about committing suicide, it is about maintaining their dignity. Remember this are the people who welcomed the Jews in their land after being gassed by Hitlers men living millions dead. The Palestinians took them as their cousins, willingly sold them land without knowing that they had a bigger agenda of ultimately taking over their land. When the Jews came, they were literary prepared for the long haul by the time the Palestinians realised that they were after their land, it was late as their were militarily weak compared to the new comers.
Before this, the Palestinians had lived for centuries in animosity with their Jewish cousins, the Sabra (the Middle East (Shephardic) Jews) who had lived among Muslims in many areas of the Muslim world without animosity.
After the Jews, majority of them who comprised the Ashkenazi-the European Jews whose ancentry is in Russia, violently took over the land after the massacres in various parts of Palestine, they dislodged the inhabitants who had lived for centuries on their land with the refugees being forced to cram into the enclaves of Gaza and West Bank. Even after these, they have not been left in peace and various measures including the Separatists wall, military operations, killings, mass arrests continue on a daily scale to oppress and repress the Palestinians.
There is no question that the state of Israel is sitting on land which belongs to Palestinians and only an ignorant fool can deny this. What the Palestinians are fighting for is their dignity and even if this means to stand up with stones against the mighty American supplied Abrahams Tanks, they will continue fighting till they will win their freedom and dignity. And this time will DEFINITELY come however, long it will take. It took 90 years for the Palestinians to free themselves from the Crusaders who were backed by European Christian states and the current occupation is just over 60 years. There is nothing new which is happening.
What the Palestinians are doing is not something novel. Here in Kenya the Mau Mau with their crude weapons battled the mighty British colonialists and eventually prevailed over them in an attempt to assert their dignity and freedom. The same was seen by the African National Conference which battled the apartheid government which like the State of Israel was militarily and economically powerful and was backed by the super powers, US, Britain and other western powers who saw the ANC fighters and Mandela himself as terrorists-the same epithet being given to the Palestinians. Im sure Mr Maurice, the actions of the Mau Mau and the ANC in your mindset you could not equate them to suicide.
By the way,the present crisis was triggered by an Israel patrol which had crossed over to Gaza and was attacked by Palestinians fighters leaving 4 Israel soldiers injured. In "retaliation' Israel carried out several airstrikes which Hamas called for their cessation but this was not heeded. They had no option but to assert their dignity. I hope in this circumstances you did not expect them to turn the other cheek!!
In this matter, can we be fair and just. Gaza is under occupation, just yesterday, a family of 11 was killed in an airstrike, to Israel not even an apology on this, Al Jazeera is now reporting that a football stadium has been hit-surely how can this be justified. As long as we will allow our mindset to be controlled by those who are saying that the Israel has a legitimate right to defend itself, we will still live in the shadows of lies and deceit.
If the original idea to have the Jewish homeland in Uasin Gishu as had been proposed by the British was taken over, I bet by now many Kenyans would be considered as terrorists for fighting for their inaliable right to land.

Palestinians should know that they can not fight Israel militarily and
find other ways of dealing with their demands. I learned very early in
life that life was not always just and that sometimes you have to sit
down and negotiate with someone you really resent just so you can get
what you want.
I really hope that the Jewish-Palestinian dispute will one day be
resolve and will just remain a bad memory.
