[wanabidii] Re: Kawangware Kids

Hello guys,

Hope you are all well and in good shape. I want to take this chance to apologize for my silence and the delay in uploading the pics for the visit on Saturday. I did travel to Kampala, Uganda on Sunday and came back on Tuesday. I was out in the field yesterday and did not get a chance to write to you.

We did go on Saturday to visit the kids and all went well. We did buy food, got some balls for them to play with and were very happy. We also managed to get a  double decker bed although it was not ready by then. We paid for the deposit (Ksh 5,000) and left the balance (Ksh 5,000) to be paid after it was ready. I'll go pick it up today in the evening as agreed with the carpenter. On the very day, mum (Martha Njeri, as we call her) had been injected by a nail and her leg was sore. She had difficulties walking and in great pain, we had to take her to hospital. Together with her 2 daughters, we took her to a nearby clinic and got a tetanus injection. I saw her yesterday and she's well. Thereafter delivered a bunch of clothes i had got from well wishers to the kids.

This is our budget breakdown as per the money we had:
Shopping - 20,000
Transport - 2,000
Double decker bed - 10,000
2 wheel chairs (set aside) - 10,000

NB: We have decided to set aside 10,000 aside for the purchase of 2 wheelchairs for use by the 2 disabled kids. However, we are in talks with the Association for Physically Disabled Kenya (APDK)  to see if they can fund the chairs so that we direct the funds to the betterment of the kids wellbeing. We'll keep you posted on the developments.

I'll be uploading more photos plus Martha's vote of thanks video within the day, just having slow Internet connection.

Thank you all and God bless.
Cheers.

for our people. If you are like me, from dirt poor and humble backgrounds, you
understand what others means to us.
