[wanabidii] Warsama must not Shield Terrorists

Joe,

There will be no sympathy for agents of terror, they cannot hide among us, hide the suspected terrorists and even deny government security agencies information and continue to kill our own.

We must stand up and be counted in order to defeat terrorism. Our 1st line of defense is to establish their networks and destroy the same.

Sungu.

The Police are looking for Makaburi, the Sheikh that Warsama told us he spoke to yesterday. Warsama should release that phone number to the Police so the Sheikh's location  can be tracked down by GPS.

MOMBASA, KENYA: Police are now looking for preacher, Sheikh Abubakar Shariff, alias Makaburi, for supporting terrorism. This comes less than 24 hours after killing of another radical Islamist, Sheikh Ibrahim Omar Rogo alias Amru.

Makaburi is said to have disappeared from his residence early yesterday, after the hurried burial of Sheikh Ibrahim and three friends who were together shot dead along Mombasa-Malindi highway.

His cell-phone has so far been switched off. Police, however, believe he is in Mombasa. The latest casualty in what is considered a crackdown on terrorists sparked riots in parts of Mombasa. Intelligence sources are meanwhile trying to derive an operational link between the deceased and Makaburi, who has been accused of offering support to the Al-Shabaab militants.

In mid-July, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) released a report linking a man called 'Amru' to a plot to bomb targets in Mombasa to avenge the August 27, 2012 killing of Sheikh Aboud Rogo.

  High-ranking
On Friday, police said Makaburi interfered with the crime scene on Thursday and obstructed investigations.

Makaburi believes Sheikh Ibrahim Omar was targeted because of his ideological ties to the late Sheikh Aboud Rogo. Even though the deceased was not known to most people, police say he was in the high ranks in militia organisation despite his tender age.

Makaburi, who is facing terror charges and was an ally of the late Sheikh Aboud Rogo, claims Sheikh Ibrahim was the target of Thursday's killings. "The person targeted in that car was Sheikh Ibrahim," he said.

Makaburi, who had rushed to the scene of the incident, alleged the deceased was targeted because he would often step in for Sheikh Rogo to lead prayers or issue sermons at the controversial Musa Mosque in Majengo.

He also argued that Sheikh Ibrahim was an innocent preacher who was killed in retaliation for last month's attack on the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. But Mombasa police think otherwise, stating that Sheikh Rogo, who was 25, was an accomplished radical.

"The man was under surveillance. He was on our radar together with other clerics," said Kipkemboi Kitur, Mombasa County Police Commander. The police boss denied local police killed Sheikh Ibrahim. But Police and Intelligence sources indicate that Sheikh Ibrahim was a key ideologue and follower of the late Sheikh Rogo who was behind the radicalisation and indoctrination of youth in Majengo using Musa Mosque as his base.
Radicalisation of youth
"The man who was shot dead by unknown people was one of the individuals in Mombasa involved in radicalisation of the youth. We have many more we are watching in this town," Kitur said last evening.

Reports indicate he was killed at 9.45pm on Thursday after issuing a sermon at Musa Mosque. Anti-terrorism police have been seeking to arrest him since Tuesday after issuing an incendiary sermon in support of the Westgate attacks. His profile remains scanty, but he is said to be married to two women and has houses in Mtwapa. The four were interred in a single grave with four chambers at the Tudor Muslim Cemetery in the wee hours of yesterday. However,  last evening, Makaburi dared police to arrest him after claims he took the bodies for burial before investigations were complete.

Speaking to The Standard On Saturday, he disputed claims that he was the first person to have arrived at the scene of killings. "I arrived at the scene 45 minutes later and found more than 30 police officers there. And the question that I am hiding  does not arise," said Abubakar. He added, "I am ready to be arrested. I am not a coward.  What are they waiting for if they have evidence against me?" he added.
