[wanabidii] American Phrases

An idea just came to me to try something here and see if people will warm up to this. There are some American phrases that are now used very commonly and I'm not sure if they are familiar to a lot of people out there. The constituent words in the phrases are simple and common words; but the phrases are something else.

Who can tell me what the following 2 phrases mean?

You are up the creek without a paddle

You are going out on a limb

Courage
