[wanabidii] Why do some Kenyans behave this way? Why?

 

You have heard of councils officials collecting ushuru and banking in their personal accounts.

 

Council workers have areas to be paid as salaries lakini wako sawa with the two types of receipting. Kanyaga a flower bed/drop a paper on an already dirty path and find yourself negotiating on how much you have instead of going to pour the whole 5k as "bail" or stay in the nauseating cell.

 

We need good will all through - paying mpigs and leaving security service providers in horrible conditions will demand that they scheme on how to eat - they also have stomachs!

Maryann & MO,

Some of my friends have been victims to both the city council askaris and the police in uniform.   What makes me even more mad is the fact that they do whatever they do with so much authority and no fear.  I once went to the KICC police station to "bail out" a friend and what I witnessed in the process of "kutoa bail" was unbelievable.  They do it in open.  They do it as if it is in the books of laws and nobody can touch them.

In as much as the police are lowly paid and therefore may engage in some of these inhuman activities,  we expect them to be civil and work by the law.   I think the police reforms are way too far unachievable with this form of elements.

This has been going on for so long, i remember sometime in 2008, my brother was also a victim of this, he was heading home from evening classes, as he was waiting for a matatu to come home,  he was arrested, together with all the people who were at the matatu stage, most of whom were young boys and girls  like him, that was like some minutes to 9, though they took them  to Central police, where we had to go and "bail" him out. we tried asking why they were arrested, and the police man directed us to another police man who directed us to another police man, then we realized it was a waste of time,
