Subject: E-alert: Tune in to a live discussion on the TB emergency in Africa

 

Sub-Saharan Africa is facing a tuberculosis (TB) emergency. In 2011 there were 548 000 TB deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa, more than in any other region of the world. Despite recent gains, Sub-Saharan Africa is not currently on track to achieve the international targets of cutting TB and TB/HIV deaths by half by the time that the Millennium Development goals expire in 2015.  Recent progress, leadership and momentum hold promise for a much faster response.

On Sunday 19 May at 19:30 CET, ministers of health, corporate sector leaders and development partners will join a moderated discussion on how to accelerate the TB response in sub-Saharan Africa. The event will be hosted by Global Health and Diplomacy (GHD), the International Organization for Migration and the Stop TB Partnership.

Partners are invited to register for a live webcast of the event. Those of you who are based in Geneva or visiting for the World Health Assembly are invited to register to attend the event in person (limited capacity).
