[wanabidii] EMMANUEL OLE NAIKO APPOINTED HONORARY CONSUL OF BOTSWANA IN TANZANIA

A long serving public servant and a renowned investment expert, Emmanuel Ole Naiko has been appointed as honorary consul of the Republic of Botswana to the United Republic of Tanzania with residence in Dar es Salaam.



With the appointment, Mr. Naiko shall have full powers and authority under the supervision of the High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana in Lusaka, Zambia, aid and protect the nationals of Botswana visiting or residing in Tanzania as well as promote the commercial interests of Botswana.


Mr. Naiko's appointment was announnced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Mr. Bernard Membe yesterday in Dar es Salaam.

"I would like to thank the President of Botswana, H.E. Ian Khama and the country's Foreign minister, Mr. Phandu Skelemani for this appointment," he said.

Mr. Naiko who is the immediate former Executive Director of Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) requested Tanzanian business community to turn their eyes to Botswana because the country has a lot to offer in terms of investment opportunities.

"I welcome Tanzanians and East Africans at large to invest in Botswana," he said, adding that time has come for Botswana to have big investors from Tanzania as well.

Mr. Naiko told Minister Membe that the government of Tanzania should also think of opening a consulate in Botswana which harbors between 2000 and 4000 Tanzanians, working in various sectors such as technology, academy, health and private companies.

"They have their association and I once met them while I was at TIC," he said.

Like Tanzania, Botswana boosts peace and tranquility in Africa. The country with a total of 58, 2000 sp km shares a boarder with South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zambia.

A relatively free corrupt country has a total population of 2 million with a GDP of USD 14.4 billion as of 2010.

The country is committed to have a very vibrant financial sector, investing heavily in mining sector especially in uranium, and transportation of copper and diamond.

Also, the country encourages high quality tourism. Personal income tax in Botswana is 25 per cent, 12 per cent value added tax, and 22 per cent income tax. Investors in Botswana may enjoy tax holidays of between five to 10 years.
