Kenya kaka tuna maajabu. There are so many of such stories in Keya one
can even write a book chronicling them.

One case that made me laugh happened in Luoland near Kisumu. Luos are
generally quite 'principled' when it comes to elections. They get very
passionate about the candidates they support and no matter what other
candidates give hem, they will just take it but still vote for their
preferred candidate. Candidates a lot of times come around during the
campaigns and dish out cash. In 1992, KANU candidates were giving away
500/- shilling notes to each voter. In Luoland, the voters took the
money but still voted for FORD-Kenya, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's party.
But come 1997, KANU came up with a different strategy. They still
dished out 500/- notes per person in selected opposition ares to try
and buy support. But each not was cut into 2. The voter kept one half
and the campaign organizer kept the other half. They were told that if
the KANU candidate did not win, then they would not get the remaining
half of the note to glue together.
In that election, KANU won a lot of seats in the opposition areas,
except in Luoland. The Luos ignored the warning and still voted their
conscience. But in all other areas KANU made a lot of gains.
KANU kept it's proomise to come back and hand over the remaining
halves of the 500/- shilling notes.

I'm telling you, if you're shocked and awed by The Pharaoh's deeds,
you'll be flabbergasted by Moses'. Or is it the other way round?
