[wanabidii] I shall die for Malawi – President Banda

Folks,

Mobhare Matimy is right.  Joyce Banda is wrong.  She and her team need
to go back to drawing board and get her geo/history right before calling for
war.  She has a lot to loose.  This is exactly what happened to Migingo,
where Kibaki and Raila for political gains, gave away Migingo to Museveni
for Bushes water, fish business trading with oil trading exploration......While
Kagame of Rwanda is dishing out Congo and East Africa wealth resources
for Clinton's business interests network.

There must be order people and things must be done the right way through
mutual common interest of all......."Give and Take".......

Tanzania must protect its interests........and, the scramble to Africa
must be done orderly as Africans too must have ways and means to
protect and preserve survival and livelihood of their people......

This is why, Africa must be included in the G20 club for Global Emerging
Markets wayforward Agenda.  Africa must not be left in the dark when the
scramble to Africa aim at Africa's wealth resources.

The Truth shall set us all free.........

I shall die for Malawi – President Banda

Malawi President Joyce Banda on Saturday made an emotional declaration that she shall die for the sake of her country, in what others see as a defiant insinuation to the threats of war by Tanzania on the ownership of Lake Malawi.
Speaking at a Ngoni traditional festival in the northern district of Mzimba on Saturday, Banda said emphatically in unrelated to the function: "I shall die for the people of Malawi. I shall die for the land of Malawi."
The Malawi leader has not commented on the row with Tanzania.
Tanzania has been warmongering on the standoff over oil and gas exploration in Lake Malawi – also known as Lake Nyasa in Tanzania.
But Malawi has been diplomatic on the issue and are arranging showdown talks on August 20.

The dispute of the third-largest fresh water resource in Africa has escalated because Tanzania is demanding Malawi to halt exploration activities granted to British company Surestream Petroleum for oil and gas. Surestream is currently conducting an environmental impact assessment.
Meanwhile, a history and political science lecturer at the Malawi Polytechnic, Simburashe Mungoshi suggests the dispute can only be resolved by compromise.
"When these boundaries were agreed upon by the British and Germans it was a give and take game," said the lecturer on VOA.
"The British had to give up claims in some territories in Tanganyika area. Needless to say the Germans had also to give up. So in which case, if Tanzania wants a change in boundaries it would be a give and take. If they want something they must give something. Malawi is a land locked country; we need access to the sea. May be they could give us an equivalent piece of land to take us to the sea."
Malawi insists the whole lake belongs to her and there is no way the country can halt oil and gas exploration.
A home to about 1,000 endemic species of fish Lake Malawi is located at the junction of Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. It sustains nearly 10 million people in these three countries.

Dispute on Lake Malawi: Tanzania says ready for any provocation

August 3, 2012

Tanzania government has hit back at the statement by Malawi for its claim of ownership of Lake Nyasa, saying the country would defend its territorial integrity and observe international laws.
The acting Leader of government businesses in Parliament, Samweli Sitta , said the Tanzania government was shocked by the information that principal secretary in Malawi's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Patrick Kabambe declared that the entire Lake Malawi also known in Tanzania as Lake Nyasa was wholly in Malawi.
Sitta who is also the East Africa Cooperation minister said Tanzania government has been shocked by the statement because the discussion concerning the ownership of Lake Malawi was proceeding.
Tanzania seeks 50 per cent ownership of Lake Malawi. The lake is in the southern part of Tanzania, bordering Malawi, and is reported to have signs of bearing oil and gas.

Kabambe: To continue engaging Tanzania in talks

He was commenting after a request for a government statement over the issue from MP Godfrey Zambi .
"My voters have been calling to inform me about the statement by the Malawi government that Lake Nyasa belonged to Malawi…this has interfered with people's activities and threatened their security," Zambi said.
Kabambe is quoted saying: "We categorically put it to them (Tanzania) that as far as we are concerned, the entire lake belongs to Malawi."
He cited an agreement of 1890 between former colonial powers that stipulates the border between the two countries as lying along the Tanzanian shore of the lake.
"Our terms are very clear on this, but we will continue to engage with Tanzania as a good neighbour," Kabambe was quoted by AFP News Agency as saying.
Meanwhile,Sitta according to The Citizen of Tanzania, assured residents around Lake Malawi in the Eastern African country that they should carry on with their daily activities: " The government is stable and ready for any provocation."
The development of the dispute dates back to the colonial era, but gained momentum in September last year. At that time the former Malawi President, the late Bingu wa Mutharika, awarded a British firm, Surestream Petroleum, a licence to prospect for oil and gas on the lake.
Tanzania on Wednesday called for an amicable resolution to the dispute with Malawi over oil and gas exploration in the lake.
The two nations will hold talks on the disputed border in the northern Malawian town of Mzuzu on August 20.

Odour,

Altering the borderlines inside Lake Victoria will affect borders on the dry land and I don't anyone will be ready for that. Besides, Kenyans are not denied anything in the lake and that is why Kenya is competing with Tanzania and Uganda in exporting fish from the lake. The case of Malawi-Tanzania is different because Malawi claims that the whole lake belongs to them. Tanzania is not trying to get half of the lake or anything like equitable what and what, but half of the lake north of River Ruvuma (about 20% to 25% of the whole lake), which means Malawi will still keep the bigger portion of the lake. We will do our best to resolve the crisis, and should all means fail ,then we will take it by force, let Joyce Banda die for her dear country - if dying is that much easy.
