RE: [wanabidii] +++ The Creation Story Is Just A Jewish Myth!

Shallow knowledge of the Bilble which leads to  literal translation! There are two creation accounts in the Bible: One in Genesis Chapter one which you have just tried to refer to with a literal translation and another one which starts  from the same Book of Genesis chapter 2:4bff. Literal criticism of the Bible reveals that these two accounts come from different sources, backgrounds and traditions. You can even easily notice their differences e.g; in the first account,  creation is completed at the 6th day with the creation of man, (the crowning of creation), while in the second account, it is man who is created first and all other creatures are created after ...These differences, however, do not mean contradictions. They are only different expressions of the fundamental truth expressed in Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heaven and earth". And in fact this is the only fundamental truth concerning creation in which all traditional Christians believe in. The ''how'' God created has never been and is not the business of Christian faith as nobody was there when God was creating the heaven and earth. That means, Christians believe in the fundamental truth that God created heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1) fullstop. Whether man was created before water or light was created before darkness or man was created before the woman of vice versa, has never been part of the fundamental truths in which Christians believe at least in as far as I know!
I am still interested to hear your answers on the question posed to you  by some friends ... ????

No matter how dumb somebody is, it would still be possible to come to the conclusion that the story of creation as articulated in the bible is mythical. It is not a TRUE story. It does not matter what your pastor says, nothing really happened, other than someone, probably a Jew, thinking that whole creation story up. Really, that is all there is to the book of Genesis. A bunch of old Jewish myths that try to explain creations. So as you plan to go to church this coming weekend, know this: Your Bible is not a book of TRUTH.

Look at how the book begins:

Genesis Chapter 1

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

So in the beginning God created heaven and earth. What else did he create? I guess christian fanatics will be quick to point out that he created he universe, the comets, the planet called Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and all the Stars. But why only talk of heaven and earth? The reason is simple. Heaven at that time was thought to be up there (literary) and earth to be down. You can clearly see that the idea of heaven and earth was so simplistic to the writers of the bible at that time. Remember the bible was written at a time when advancement in science was minimal if any But look at what happens next, the biblical God says - Let there be light, and there was light. This declaration assumes that there was no light, but darkness on earth. If you look at this declaration, you see that light was seen to be something to be made, as opposed to something to be understood

We now know what light is. We know what it is made of. Light is not something that is created. Anyway, then the biblical God goes ahead and divides light from darkness. This is the bit which gives this away as a myth completely. You cannot separate light from darkness. Darkness is a lack of light. And darkness on earth is as a result of the rotation of the earth. The entire story looks too simplistic, to have any truth value.

This story should be treated as a myth. Nothing more.
