Re: [wanabidii] +++ Christianity has a morbid, unhealthy preoccupation with sex!

Dear, The Atheist!

You are probably the one preoccupied with sex and now you project it
onto Christianity and the Catholic Church. You say, "The Ten
Commandments contain a commandment forbidding the coveting of one's
neighbor's wife, but do not even mention slavery, torture, or
cruelty—which were abundantly common in the time the Commandments were
written— speaks volumes about their writer's preoccupation with sex
(and women as property)."

Jesus summarised the 10 commandments into two - "Love your God and
your neighbour as yourself." In other words, you cannot love God if
you can't love your fellow human being and if you love your fellow
human being you cannot subject him or her to slavery, torture or
cruelty. The Bible from Genesis to Revelation speaks about
establishing right relationships.

We can read it from different books - psalms, prophets, gospels and
epistles - among others. So, it is not true that slavery, torture or
cruelty are not mentioned. Read the book of Amos, for instance, it
talks about that. I invite you, instead of giving sweeping statements,
take your time to read and meditate on biblical texts and certainly
one day you'll come to realise that what you are doing is either you
are dodging the truth or you are ignorant about it and so if you are
'either or' your tendency would be to speculate as you are doing.
